About

I am a New Zealand-based journalist exploring the boundaries of new technologies and digital storytelling.

I am the  editor of the Nelson Weekly/Nelson App and the creative director of Vanishing Point Studio  which creates interactive and immersive digital projects.

We work with designers, developers, animators, data visualisers and filmmakers. Some of our projects can be found here.

I was named Senior Feature Writer of the Year at the 2015 Canon Media Awards and won the 2014 award for Innovation in Multimedia Storytelling for Lost in the Long White Cloud – a multimedia longform project. Other longform work includes Into the Black,  about one of New Zealand’s worst maritime disasters and two pieces from a international reporting trip to Thailand: Bodies for Profit and Fighting for Survival.

My work has appeared in the International New York Times, the Guardian, the Sydney Morning Herald and National Geographic Traveller.

I won Junior Reporter of the Year in 2011 and have worked in Africa, Indonesia, East Timor, Italy and India and covering everything from food crises and peacekeeping to the Venice Bienale and cricketing. I was named Cathay Pacific Travel Writer of the Year in 2012.
